MEET THE ARTISTS RECEPTION

Green Spring Gardens Horticultural Center is featuring a joint display of landscape and floral watercolors by Carolyn Grossé Gawarecki and a variety of photographic subjects by Stephen J. Gawarecki.

Carolyn is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and the Watercolor Honor Society. She taught watercolor painting at the Art League School in Alexandria and for the Falls Church City Recreation Department. She has conducted painting workshops across the US and in numerous countries in Europe; she is also well known for her painting demonstrations before many local art groups in the DC metropolitan area. Watercolors from her recent trip to the Grand Tetons will be on exhibit. Her works have been purchased by museum and corporate collections, and she has received more than a hundred awards in national and local exhibitions. Carolyn uses a full palette of rich color to depict a wide range of subjects in her unique expressive style.

Stephen has established himself as an outstanding professional photographer. Several of his award-winning photographs from the recent USGS National Exhibition will be on display. He is a member of the prestigious Northern Virginia Photographic Society. He specializes in evocative moody landscapes, architectural abstracts, and still lifes, notably his window series. Stephen works mainly in color and employs subtle contrasts of light and shadow which range from the monochromatic to full-bodied color.

WATERCOLOR CRITIQUE CLASS - WINTER - SPRING 2011

I will be holding a session of one critique class a month at the Falls Church Rec. Center.  Registration is on going. Call 703 248 5077 for a catalog.  You can call in, mail in, walk in, or go on line (www.fallschurchva).

Painting Fog and Rain
March 23 (Wed.) and 24 (Thur.), 2011 - 10:00 an - 4:00 pm

Learn to create the moods of fog and rain.  Particular attention is paid to value and the colors needed for the illusion of these moods.  The wet reflective appearance of street surfaces, rooftops, umbrellas, and puddles are also covered.  Each class begins with a demonstration followed by work-time and individual help, and ends with a critique.  Students work from sketches and photos.
